SDSU
San Diego State University, established in 1897, is the third largest institution among the 21 campuses of the California State University system, as well as one of the largest in the nation, with over 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
The University offers undergraduate studies leading to bachelor’s degrees in than 85 areas, master’s degrees in more than 75 areas of study, and the PhD in thirteen disciplinary areas as well as the EdD and the AuD.
SDSU School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
The SDSU School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, first established in the 1960s as the Department of Communicative Disorders, consists of the separate but related professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. The school’s programs are designed to provide basic and advanced professional preparation, with a strong commitment to theoretical and research foundations of clinical intervention.
In order to provide students with “real world” professional experiences, the school maintains contractual relationships with community clinics, hospitals, agencies and educational institutions. Through its Audiology Clinic and Speech-Language Clinic, the school offers diagnostic and rehabilitative services to University students, faculty and staff, as well as to individuals in the San Diego region.
UC San Diego
The University of California, San Diego is one of ten campuses of the University of California. UC San Diego curricula and programs have been singled out for top rankings in national surveys at both undergraduate and graduate levels. US News and Report has named nine of UC San Diego’s graduate programs among the top 10 in the nation. In terms of Federal research and developmental funding, it is currently ranked sixth, ahead of UCLA, Harvard, and Stanford.
Department of Cognitive Science
The JDP LCD is housed in the UC San Diego Department of Cognitive Science in the School of Social Science. Known for establishing the world’s first cognitive science department, faculty and students in the Department of Cognitive Science continue to be at the vanguard of the interdisciplinary study of intelligent activity. Beyond the Department’s own Ph.D. program in Cognitive Science, it serves as the nexus for the university’s inter-disciplinary Ph.D. program in which students can pursue a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science in addition to one from the Departments of Anthropology, Biology, Communication, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Linguistics, Music, Neuroscience, Philosophy, Psychiatry, Psychology, or Sociology. With its rich history of interdisciplinary collaboration, the Department of Cognitive Science is a natural home for the innovative clinical research conducted by students and faculty in the JDP LCD.
