Scholarly Areas
Dr. Pham conducts research in child language development and disorders in linguistically diverse populations. She leads and collaborates with research teams in the US and in Vietnam on several NIH funded projects to identify developmental language disorder in bilingual children in the US who speak either Vietnamese or Spanish as a first language as well as monolingual children in Vietnam, a country where speech-language pathology is a newly emerging field. These projects approach the challenge of clinical language assessment using children’s skills in their first language, second language (English), and nonlinguistic cognitive processing. Dr. Pham is co-author of a book, Language Disorders in Bilingual Children and Adults, 3rd edition, and has numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She has worked as a trilingual speech-language pathologist, fluent in Vietnamese, Spanish, and English.
