The SLHS DEI group met on January 27, 2021. We laid out the work plan for the semester and discussed themes that were covered in the Current-Former Student Conversation Circle that was held on January 21, 2021. SLHS DEI plans for the semester include continued examination and discussion of aggregated student success data (e.g., graduation rates) and equity gaps that exist within these data, as well as formulation of a new SLHS diversity plan based on these data, consistent with current University-wide efforts to generate such plans. We are grateful for the SLHS DEI group’s current and former student members who organized the Current-Former Student Conversation Circle, and to the current and former students who participated (a total of 30 participants). The broad themes that were discussed in the Conversation Circle included transparency and accountability in the School’s DEI-related work, the importance of community-building efforts to specifically support students of color, and the importance of continued active efforts to build cultural competency within our community. Immediate and future steps to address these themes were discussed.
