Perfusion in language-disordered populations
Current research interests encompass the neural correlates of languagecomprehension, in both language-disordered and healthy populations. Kathleen uses fMRI and perfusion MRI methods to explore the complex brain/behavior relationships that underlie sentence processing. Perfusion MRI methods have demonstrated both slowed and reduced cerebral blood flow in stroke survivors with aphasia, and these reductions in cerebral blood flow have been associated with linguistic performance difficulties. Further research aims to more clearly define and understand the neural underpinnings of sentence comprehension in both unimpaired individuals, as well as those struggling with a language disorder. |
