Overview, Open House 2009
The School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is celebrating its move to a new building and its 70th year anniversary with an Open House for SDSU faculty, staff, students, alums and our community on Friday May 8, 2009.
Come tour our clinics, labs, classrooms, and offices at our new campus location on the corner of Campanile Drive and Lindo Paseo Avenue (across from the KPBS building).
Our Proud History
The educational, clinical and research missions in speech, language and hearing sciences have been part of SDSU for over 70 years. The School of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services is very proud of its early beginnings starting in 1938 when speech therapy services were offered on campus followed by the opening of the speech and hearing clinic.Over the past 70 years, we have established outstanding undergraduate programs with concentrations in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies, speech-language pathology and audiology. Our MA and AuD graduate programs train speech-language pathologists and audiologists. Our student clinicians serve the needs of children and adults with speech, language and hearing problems in our Audiology and Speech-Language campus clinics and in off-campus placements in the community. We also train Ph.D. students to become the future educators in our disciplines and conduct research to advance our understanding of (a) speech and language development and disorders; (b) bilingualism for spoken and sign languages; (c) best-practice assessment and treatment methods for communication disorders.
With the Fall 2008 move of our academic, clinical and research programs into a new, state-of-the-art facility, we are looking forward to an exciting future!
In celebration of our 70th anniversary and new building, we are holding an open house for the SDSU community, our alums, and the many medical and allied health professionals, educators and friends in the San Diego region and beyond who have supported the missions of SLHS and SDSU. We hope you will join us for this celebration!
