FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
In addition to the typical avenues of financial assistance offered through Student Financial Services (Student Services Building Rm-2536, Phone 594-6422), the school has the following opportunities (for more information, contact the School Administrative Assistant):
- Graduate Assistantships (GAs) - These appointments are made on a semester by semester basis and the number may depend on the school's budget and faculty research funding. A GA usually helps an instructor with materials for courses, works in the school office/library/clinic, and/or may be working for faculty on research projects. The typical appointment is for 5-10 hours/week with a pay rate of approximately $10.00/hour. The appointment requires a commitment for the entire semester. The GAs are open to first and second year students. Reappointment for successive semesters is possible. To apply for a GA assignment, obtain an application from the administrative assistant. Some students are hired through a research project as a Research Assistant (RA) administered directly by the faculty member who has the grant (contact research lab directors).
- Teaching Associates (TAs) - These appointments are for teaching assignments. A few of the undergraduate lab courses, e.g., 321L, 340L, are usually taught by a graduate student. Competency in the course is essential. The appointment is typically for 1.5 units of instruction. The TAs are open to first and second year students. Reappointment for successive semesters is possible. TAs are determined by the course instructor with approval from the School Director.
- School Scholarships - The following scholarships are specific to graduate students in the school, but handled through the University Scholarship Office. An Application can be sent to you from the Scholarship Office. Email (cfox@mail.sdsu.edu) your request. Applications are usually due in February for the following year.
