Biography: Dr. Forestal’s dissertation was related to an attitude study: Attitudes of Deaf Leaders toward Sign Language Interpreters and Interpreting. He was professor of American Sign Language at Suffolk County Community College in New York where he established curriculum in ASL Studies and Interpreter Education for over 15 years. Subsequently, Dr. Forestal developed an ASL-Deaf Studies Certificate program at Frederick Community College in Maryland. He was assistant professor of the Teaching American Sign Language Emphasis at the University of Utah for two years, and then he became senior ASL lecturer at ASU. Briefly, he was assistant professor/coordinator of ASL Teacher Education at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. After two years of teaching ASL courses at Mesa Community College near Phoenix, Dr. Forestal is now ASL-Deaf Studies Lecturer/Coordinator at San Diego State University.
