The School of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences is now accepting applications for the SLHS Honor's program
posted 9/24/08
The Honor's Program is for exceptional students in the SLHS major interested in learning more about speech, language, and hearing, and working with faculty members.
Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be eligible to apply for admission to the school's honors program during the fall semester of their junior year.
Benefits of doing an Honors Thesis:
- Students in the School's Honors Program will have an opportunity to work closely with faculty
- Students in the School's Honors Program will have gain insights into what life is like as a graduate student
- The advanced nature of some of these projects provides faculty members with more information about a student's ability, creativity and work habits that cannot be obtained as easily in a classroom setting. A summary of these experiences can be included in letters of recommendations.
What's involved?:
- Students take 8 units of Honors Seminars (491, 492a and 492b) over a period of three semesters beginning spring of their junior year.
- During their senior year, students will conduct a research study and present a final research product (APA style report) to their advisor and the Honor's advisor by the end of the spring semester of their senior year.
- The projects will culminate in a poster session at the end of the senior year.
Please see the Course Catalog (page 262) for more specific information about the Honors Program.
Those interested should fill out the application and submit it along with a copy of their unofficial transcript no later than October 31, 2008.
